The Saxon Heritage

Biertan, Malancrav, Sighișoara

This trip will take you to the beautiful village Biertan, an old Saxon village UNESCO World Heritage Site, which hosts also Transylvania strongest fortified and probably also most interesting church!

After Biertan you will visit Malankrav, another unique Saxon village with another impressive Saxon fortified Church dating back since 1350, the only one in Transylvania featuring intact original medieval frescoes. Another site not to be missed, is the charming nearby Apalfi manor house – beautifully restored by the Mihai Eminescu Trust with the help of Prince Charles. The next stop will introduce you to the “Breite Plateau”, the biggest wood pasture of Europe and maybe the last example of a culturally modified forest on the continent. The “Breite” is home to over 600 ancient oaks, many of them over 700 years old – also the oldest tree in Transylvania (over 800 years old).

The final destination will be Sighisoara with a tour of the Medieval Fortified City including The Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill and many more – all presented to you from a local authentic perspective with places and stories not mentioned in Lonely Planet or other travel guides.
