Our Services

We hope you enjoy your time with us in what we believe is one of the best places to stay in Transylvania, and it is our aim to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. All our houses are old Saxon farmhouses, which were not built to host guests, and the needs of the former occupants were quite different from those we and our guests have today. We have tried to sensitively adapt the houses for their current use, but please bear in mind that (hopefully only minor) problems do occur with old buildings; please let us know if this is the case and we will do our utmost to resolve the issue.

Below we have put together some information that we hope you might find useful. Should you have any further questions or need anything else, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Valea Verde is not a guesthouse or resort in the conventional sense. Our houses and apartments are spread throughout the village and are all converted Saxon farmhouses with their own special charm. The reception is located in the Valea Verde Restaurant, which is also home to our central administration, and where we answer all your enquiries to the best of our abilities!

Upon arrival you will be welcomed by our staff, who will check you into your “home from home” in Cund. You are always more than welcome to make use of the entire Valea Verde grounds (excluding only the rare occasions when they are rented out for a special event) and all of our facilities are at your disposal. Furthermore, all meals will be served in our restaurant or the grounds – please be advised that advance reservations are highly advisable!

All our houses and apartments are cleaned before your arrival and we provide a fresh set of linen and towels once a week upon request. Cleaning products are provided in most apartments and houses, but should you require a cleaning or laundry service, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Valea Verde staff! These services are charged as follows:

Daily cleaning service: EUR 5 per apartment, EUR 10 per house
Laundry service: price upon request

In our bathrooms you will find carefully sourced Naturals amenities (shampoo/shower gel, soap and body lotion), which come in a smart care system to avoid unnecessary waste. We have further items available at the Valea Verde receptions should you require them.

Some of our rooms come with a stove for extra comfort. Please note: the door of the stove must be kept shut at all times except for servicing; the air slits can be opened to allow a greater flow of oxygen while the fire is lit. Children must be kept away the stoves, which become extremely hot and can cause serious injury. Firewood and kindling wood can be found on your terrace, where there is also a metal bucket for excess ash or coal. If you need any help lighting the stoves or fireplaces, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Mobile reception in Cund is provided by the French mobile operator ORANGE and in the Valea Verde Restaurant and courtyard there is some coverage from VODAFONE. Other networks are not available except in a few places on the hills. In an emergency you can always use the phone in the Valea Verde Restaurant. Free high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access is available in all houses and most of the village.

At Valea Verde we have high-definition television sets with satellite receivers. To view programs, please turn on both devices with the respective remotes. Set your TV set to HDMI (as source) and choose your channel with the remote for the satellite receiver. If you have any problems operating these devices please don’t hesitate to contact us!

The Valea Verde Restaurant contains a wonderful selection of fascinating books on food and wine, as well as a wide range of titles on the history of Transylvania and Romania – both in English and in German. Furthermore, you will also find there a number of interesting British magazines (Condé Nast Traveller, Vogue, The Sunday Times Travel Magazine).

Please note that the water in your house comes from the fountain in your yard and we advise you not to drink it. Valea Verde sells local water in 0.75l bottles, or you can stock up at the village shops.

At the back of Valea Verde is a spacious area at your disposal with lounge chairs and various lovely spots in which to unwind – you are invited to make extensive use of it! Furthermore, guests are welcome to visit our lounge and pavilion, where you can relax and read a book in peace and quiet or enjoy a good chat!

Nestling behind Valea Verde is a Swimming Lake, in which all our guests are welcome to take a bracing dip. As always, your safety is our number one priority, so please note that we have certain rules. Guests use the lake at their own risk, and we cannot accept responsibility for any incidents. Under-18s must be supervised by parents or guardians at all times when using the lake. Please enter it only via the decks and do not enter any area with pebbles. We also kindly ask guests not to take towels from the holiday home or apartment to the lake. We are happy to provide you with large towels especially for use in the lake, which should be returned at the end of your stay.

We are privileged to have the most beautiful trails, woods, hills and valleys right on our doorstep. This makes Valea Verde not only one of the best places to stay in Transylvania, but also the ideal base from which to get acquainted with the flora and fauna of this unique part of Europe, or even take a guided walk collecting herbs. We will supply you with a packed lunch or prepare a picnic for you to enjoy at a breathtaking vantage point.

Want to release your inner Robin Hood? Step into our special workshop next to the wood workshop, dedicated to the building of bows. Take your time to craft your bow over the course of a few days, or – if time doesn’t allow – use one we prepared earlier! You can also fashion your own arrows – and then try out your creations! We have a small indoor shooting range above the workshop and one at the back of Valea Verde.

Please note that making your own bow and arrows requires prior reservation, but you’re welcome to practice archery in the Valea Verde garden at your leisure! And... fire!

Want to unwind like the French? The Valea Verde garden boasts a well maintained Boules pitch. The popular game is a most enjoyable pastime – particularly when paired with a nice chilled glass of rosé wine...

If you are unwell and need to see a doctor, please alert us immediately. Ulrike Schäfer is a trained staff-nurse and may be able to help with minor injuries or arrange for you to see someone for further consultation. There is a doctor in Bahnea, but should you need more specialist attention we suggest you go to Tirgu Mures. There you will find competent staff at the Spital Judetean and the private clinics Regina Marina, Nova Vita and Galenus. The private facilities are much more presentable, but in fact the doctors are the same as in the Spital Judetean. In an emergency, we will contact SMURD, a private emergency service provider, who can send a helicopter with medical staff to Cund.

Medical Emergency Number: 112
Spital Judeteam: 0265 212 111
Marina Regina: 021 9265 (central call center)
Nova Vita: 0265 266 112
Galenus: 0265 216 500

As anywhere in Romania, some stray dogs can be found in the village. Because they look friendly, both children and adults have a habit of petting them. Please remember that they have most likely never seen a vet and may have fleas, so we strongly advise you to keep your distance.

Great local produce is available seasonally, and you can buy fresh milk from Annuschka (the last house on the right towards Gogan) or from the Varga Family, who live across from the Village Hall (next to the School). Both speak a little English and German.
Last but not least you can visit and buy delicious cheese from the Manufactura de Branza Maturat in the village center!

At reception you can find a few postcards and souveniers for sale
